Does housing development help or hinder township finances?

This research from Penn State Extension looks at the effect different forms of land use have on township finances in Pennsylvania. They compare houseing, commercial, industrial and agricultural. It seems that adding housing developments is the most detremental!

Can you conserve and develop at the same time? Yes!

Here's a really interesting aproach some townships have taken, called conservation by design, which allows for both development and conservation at the same time.

Can you put a footpath across your land and not be liable for injuries?

Well, the answer is yes. PA passed a law back in 1966 which "“encourages owners of land to make land and water areas available to the public for recreational purposes by limiting their liability.”
